Pro-Birth, Not Pro-Life
Please remember that a human being’s protection should be based on its CORE identity – its genetic identity as a human. Devaluing the unborn simply is a form of discrimination. Devaluing human life is the very basis of oppression throughout the world. Every human life has intrinsic value. When we start to put people in categories, we are all eventually put at risk.
Our human rights should be protected on the objective basis of humanity. Please consider that the first right enumerated in our Declaration of Independence is the “Right to Life”. That right forms the foundation for all our rights.
Charles, we should care for the born and unborn. We should not punish the unborn human by ending its life. We should provide a full generous spectrum of resources – both private and governmental. In 2018, there were over 2500 crisis pregnancy centers providing a wide range of pregnancy care and after-birth care.
In addition, there are many government-funded programs, churches, and other social service agencies providing assistance… We are a prosperous, compassionate nation. We can provide the support both women and babies need.
Ron, there is no evidence that those who care about the unborn don’t also care about the born – orphans, aliens, prisoners, etc. That is a demonstrably false red herring statement. In fact, it is churches and “pro-life” people that are funding many of the charities in our world. Also, pregnancy care centers now routinely provide assistance for 2 to 3 years following the birth of a child.
What does Planned Parenthood, NARAL and others provide? Planned Parenthood’s 20-2021 Annual Report provided the following illuminating facts. In 2019-20, abortions made up 96.6% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy resolution services, while prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for only 2.2% (8,775), 0.7% (2,793) and 0.5% (1,940), respectively. Planned Parenthood reported $1.7 billion in income and over $2.1 billion in net assets — an increase from the previous report. Why wasn’t Planned Parenthood using some of its enormous profits to feed and clothe children? Abortion is big business.
Also, what is your response to the discriminatory nature of abortion? Did you know that abortion has been used to practically eliminate people with Down Syndrome? According to the United States Congress Joint Economic Committee, absent selective abortion there would be 80% more babies with Down Syndrome born each year. These are human beings who live happy and productive lives.
What about the racial discrimination that is pervasive? According to a Centers for Disease Control report for the year 2020, black babies comprised 39.2% of abortions despite the fact that black Americans were only 12.4% of the population in 2020.

Victoria, the meme is completely false. Firstly, you keep trying to make this a political discussion. It is not. Secondly, the points themselves are not factual. Let’s debunk each statement.
Prenatal care is available through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Medicaid for Pregnant Women, and many state programs. Maternal leave programs are increasing both in availability and length of time. Many companies are offering “parental” leave so that the man also can share in child-caring duties. Pre-existing conditions are increasingly covered although more work needs to be done in this area. Regarding the Safety Net for Single mothers, there definitely needs to be more support for women and children. However, it is there and it is growing. In addition to the government-funded programs, churches and other social service agencies provide assistance. In 2018, there were also over 2500 crisis pregnancy centers providing a wide range of pregnancy care and after-birth care – often for 2-3 years after birth.
We are a prosperous, compassionate nation. We can provide the support women and babies need. Regarding the outlandish statement that women and their doctors are being sentenced to death for abortion, there are no such laws. To have a civil discussion, please stick to the facts.
Amongst your wide-ranging statement there was an illuminating truth. You acknowledged that we are talking about children. Your argument was based on 1) they are “unwanted” humans who will have difficult lives and 2) allowing the unborn their Right to Life somehow stops women from exercising autonomy over their bodies.
Firstly, NO ONE has the moral right to end another innocent human being’s life. The Right to Life is a constitutional right. What gives you or a pregnant woman the right to determine that another human being’s life is not worth living? Are you actually advocating that you are the arbiter of whether a person’s environment is “good enough” or that you can forecast how their life will turn out?
Regarding bodily autonomy for women, scientifically the fetus’s body is NOT part of the woman’s body. The unborn child has a separate, unique DNA. Again, in civil society our “autonomy” and “choices” are always tempered by the rights and autonomy of others. The rights of two unique human beings must be respected and supported.

Chris, there definitely needs to be support for women and children. It is there and it is growing. In 2018, there were over 2500 crisis pregnancy centers providing a wide range of pregnancy care and after-birth care. There were only about 780 abortion facilities. So, about a 1 to 3 ratio of abortion alternatives.
Many of the pregnancy care centers now provide follow-up for 2-3 years after the baby is born – providing parenting classes, help with school/jobs, etc. In addition, there are many government-funded programs, churches, and other social service agencies providing assistance…
We are a prosperous, compassionate nation. We can provide the support women, babies and families need.
Thank you, Victoria, for your compassionate desire to get involved in helping. Yes, we must do all we can to help mothers and babies post-Roe. Resources like Safe Haven Baby Boxes will save so many lives — and are loving alternatives to abortion.
